Last weekend my husband and I took a quick weekend getaway to Pompano Beach, FL to visit the beautiful Wyndham Royal Vista Resort. Unfortunately it rained the majority of the time so we decided to see a movie on Saturday night. We grab a movie every chance we get since I review as many as possible for the blog. When we found out that Muvico 16 Pompano Beach had a D-Box Movie Theater we were willing to shell out the extra $10 per ticket to check it out.
I you watch the video above you’ll hear all the techy stuff about the D-Box that goes over my head. But basically the way I explain it is like this: It’s like sitting in a Star Tours chair at Epcot. You move around with the movie so you feel like you are part of the experience. You pitch forward, roll backwards, jar from side to side and all those types of motions that are happening with the actors on screen. It’s much like a roller coaster but certainly not as turbulent.
My personal opinion was it wasn’t worth the extra money. It was a neat little experience on our fun little vacation, but it didn’t do enough for me to ever feel the need to pay for a D-Box movie theater again. Even set to the highest intensity, since you can control the intensity yourself, I just felt like it jarred me around once in a while. Near the very end of The Amazing Spiderman it got a bit interesting, a lot more feelings of floating as Peter Parker webbed his way across New York City and free falled over the Manhattan skyline. However it was too little too late and I was already disillusioned with the novelty.
My opinion is to save your money and see your movie in typical 3D. Well actually I’m old school and believe you can see most movies in good old fashioned 2D and still be entertained but I realize most people find me quite bizarre when I make that comment.

Thanks for the heads up. We have one of these near us and have yet to check it out but might hold off thanks to your review!

Sorry it wasn’t more fun. At least you can say you tried it once.
I refuse to see movies in 3D. I don’t want to pay the extra $$, plus I don’t like the way it makes my eyes feel. 2D is good enough for me.
