Jeremy Renner And Tony Gilroy Talk The Bourne Legacy AMC Century City!

July 9, 2012 is a birthday that will live on in my heart forever as a favorite. I did not spend it with a single member of my family, however I did spend it with Jeremy Renner. Yes, you heard that right, Jeremy Renner. After a busy day of phone calls from some of the top studio executives and publicists in Hollywood I was able to procure for myself a ticket to the AMC Theaters Exclusive Live Stream Q&A with Tony Gilroy and Jeremy Renner for The Bourne Legacy. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing you work hard and have built yourself friendships in high places.

I was lucky not to stand in line since I was press so I first hit one of my favorite Los Angeles establishments Rock Sugar with Publicist V for dinner and then headed over to AMC. As with any event things were hectic and I was glad I arrived early. I received my press pass, which I’ll save forever in my box of Hollywood memorabilia (which my children will one day throw away or pawn for $150), and made my way to the theater. I got a seat a few rows up and directly in front of Jeremy. Literally within his exact line of vision. Score.

It wasn’t long before things were on a roll and Bourne Legacy co-writer Dan Gilroy came out to introduce his brother Director Tony Gilroy and actor Jeremy Renner. One amusing thing I found about Jeremy and something I’ve noticed about him in pictures is that he is never at rest. He has to be “on” at all times. He can’t just walk down stairs, he has to animatedly jog down the stairs in a theatrical fashion. Needless to say he already had my attention.

One of the funniest moments was during a downtime when they were not recording, Tony Gilroy asked, “So what do you get for coming out here today, did they give you free tickets to the movie?” and I immediately answered along with half the audience, “We get to see Jeremy Renner.” and Tony laughed and said, “That hasn’t been working out for me.”

We were treated to an extended preview of The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. I’ve always been a big fan of the Bourne movies because they starred Matt Damon and they had an authentic writing style. Yes, of course there were things that seemed far fetched but they never seemed ridiculous. This movie probably seems the farthest fetched of all but that’s the point. Aaron Cross has actual genetic enhancements. He climbs a wall in the preview! Tony Gilroy tells us in the interview this isn’t the stuff dreams are made of either, we can actually fact check his work. Needless to say I’ll be there for the screening taking notes and I’ll be holding him to that.

The one thing that made me insane was that Jeremy would not look directly at the crowd. I was sitting in front of him and have about 130 pictures and not a single direct shot. I wanted to stand up and and ask him to look at us when he talked. All of my pictures are of the side of his face. Which is beautiful but I’d have loved a few good face shots. He did get up and stretch at one point which was heaven and I missed it because I had been fumbling with something else, my recorder I believe. I saw someone else on Twitter has the pictures though so be on the lookout for those.

Things got moving pretty quickly and I’m certainly not going to transcribe the entire thing because you can watch it online at JeremyLeeRenner.com, Jeremy’s unofficial fansite that I’ve heard he respects highly. So check it out over there. I have included one quick video above with some Q&A but there is much better on YouTube. I simply wasn’t prepared with good equipment since I didn’t know I’d be attending the event. I let myself just enjoy being there.

His “handler” did not allow him to sign any autographs or take any pictures with his fans which was disappointing but made complete sense since there were so many in the theater. After the event he left and headed to Toscana for dinner with his camp. But as I mentioned before, he can’t just walk away, he has to be in constant motion telling a story with big hand motions and facial expressions. I love how animated he is, it absolutely warms my heart because as I’ve mentioned so many times before, I do love this man.

I’m hoping his publicists are about ready to recognize me and give me a phoner or a Skype interview so keep your eyes peeled for more The Bourne Legacy coming soon! Until then count down the days till the movie premieres on August 10th!

Go Lee Lee go! What an awesome way to spend your birthday. And darn Hawkeye for not turning your way at least once. Oh well. He still has a very gorgeous cheek.

One of the things I find hysterical is the kids can not figure this one out. They’ve watched the video, they’ve seen the pictures…they know what I do for a living. They understand the difference between reality and fiction. Apparently not when it comes to Hawkeye (Hotguy). Even Jason is like, “But where did he have his bow and arrow?” “Why wasn’t he in his suit, was he on vacation?” They both have a lot of questions about this event and none of them are about The Bourne Legacy. I can’t make them understand that Jeremy isn’t really Clint Barton. They refuse to believe this.

I love reading this type of event through your eyes. I did go over and watch the video on the fan site but it got boring quick. Somtimes it’s just nice to view it in a quick breakdown with amusing aspects like the “We get to see Jeremy Renner” comments and the “watching him stretch is heaven” addage.

Lee, this is wild. I knew you were a fan but had NO IDEA how much so (by now I’ve satisfied myself that you’re the Lee I met at Ingenious)!!

FYI – my sister’s birthday is July 9 and boy do you resemble her.

About Legacy, there is only one hole in the script for me, and none other. The only thing I didn’t understand was how he knew the doctor (Weisz) had called her sister. I’ve decided to believe that he was eavesdropping on the conversation with the bad guys until he finally intervened (no spoilers here).

Anyway, I’m sorry you didn’t get to meet him at the premiere. At least the mystery would be over. Look forward to that interview happening!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Paula
