Okay so like any other 70 year old Jeremy Renner fan I checked out The Bourne Legacy at 9:15 Saturday morning. Oh wait, I’m 32. Well I did what I needed to do since I couldn’t be there opening night. I was by far the youngest person in the crowd by at least 20 years, but I digress. I’ll give you Universal’s The Bourne Legacy movie review run down with the slightest spoilers to make it just that more enticing for you to check out for yourself.
The Bourne Legacy centers around Agent Aaron Cross played by Jeremy Renner. The Department of Defense has a program called Outcome which is much like the CIA’s Treadstone program and he is their Jason Bourne. Cross takes two chemical enhancements for his physical and mental state and he is running out of them. Without them he will have a long way to fall and he can’t let that happen. What starts out as a trip for some medicine rations turns into a fight for his life when Outcome is uncovered and all agents are terminated.
Cross reads in the paper that a doctor, played by Rachel Weisz, from the lab in which he had his medical tests performed was almost killed in a mass murder/suicide so he decides to check up on her and also see if she has the meds in her home. In doing so he stumbles upon a dangerous situation and finds himself saving her life. The wheels have now been set in motion and together Aaron Cross and Dr. Marta Shearing are off on a race against time and their own mortality.
My favorite scene was directly after the part in Marta’s home, so don’t get up for a bathroom break. It’s pretty simple and certainly not an adrenaline rush, but it spotlights Renner’s comedy muscles which I don’t think we get to see often enough. The scene is just a conversation between Aaron and Marta about their names and the fact that after 13 visits she doesn’t know his first name. It’s hysterical and not only does he show us some humor but he shows us a bit of sincerity and hurt as well.
Aaron Cross is not “Treadstone without the inconsistency” nor is he the one who they claimed “We’ve never seen evaluations like this”. To find out who they are talking about you’ll need to see the movie. It was pretty bad ass though and most definitely one of the more heart stopping half hours of the film.
I would have liked a love scene between Renner and Weisz. Jeremy hasn’t really done much Romance in his career and I think it’s time. Maybe I’ll start a petition. Bloggers For Jeremy Renner RomCom! Who’s with me?
Universal’s The Bourne Legacy was outstanding. It was action packed with just enough humor and emotion to round it out and not make it “just a boy movie”. I can’t get past the fact that Tony Gilroy told us during the Bourne Legacy Q&A at AMC Theaters that the science behind Outcome is really happening. We are advancing on the ability to basically reprogram a human’s chromosomes to genetically modify them to become super human. As if Jeremy Renner weren’t perfect enough.

I’m not a Renner fan but you make me want to go see this!
You’d might as well call my kids ugly or something Jenn, I mean really, you break my heart each time you start in on me with this “not a Renner fan” nonsense. But I’m glad you want to see the movie. Let’s see it when we have downtime in LA at the end of the month. I’ll go see it again. Maybe not 7 times like I did The Avengers, but I’ll see it twice.
Can you believe I have never seen any of these Bourne movies? I am so behind the times…yup, my turn to sound like a 70-year-old now! LOL! I do like action movies though so I should check it out.
Yes the movie was wonderful and Jeremy nailed it. So proud of him, not that I doubted he could do it! Sorry you didn’t get your phoner Lee. You deserved it but once it happens it’ll be even sweeter. Jeremy will enjoy talking to you just like the other celebs who you get interviews with. Don’t they usually request follow ups with you when their 2nd project comes out?

It will be so sweet I’ll get a toothache. And you are so sweet. You might be thinking of Greg Grunberg specifically. He has requested my help on numerous web interviews and things. I’ve been invited back on television sets as well for follow ups. I have a way of putting people at ease I think. Or I am good at my job. I hope it’s both. LOL
I wanted to see this (hello Bourne movie & Jeremy Renner!), but I had the nervousness that being this far into a series and changing up the main character it might not live up to its predecessors.
You have made me very excited, now, that it will be really good! And I’m happy to hear there is some humor mixed in with all the action. I’d be happy to sign a Renner RomCom petition.
Now I need to go do research on the science stuff. I’m such a geek.
Maybe I should actually start a “Renner Rom Com Petition” and make it a real thing. LOL.
Yeah this wasn’t a roll on the floor comedy don’t misunderstand, but there were a few funny moments that Jeremy pulled off so well.
I just watch 28 days later last night with hubby with him. I’m all for a sex scene hahaI already told you I’d invite him over:) Great review, my husband and I are looking forward to this!
Fabulous review! Sounds like this will make a really great date night movie with Josh. I really appreciate the fact that Jeremy did get some comedy in there instead of just pow-pow action all the time. I need character development in a movie, action all the time bores me. (I am soooo weird, I know!) LOL
I don’t think it makes you weird that you don’t just want an action movie. I call those “boy movies”. Recently I watched Safe House, it was such a “boy movie” and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Tim loved it. Whaddya gonna do
. Legacy really developed Renner’s character Aaron Cross, we even learn about his IQ in high school. The emotions behind the video clips that were previously taped in his “younger years” before Outcome were heart wrenching.

Ive heard awesome feedback about this movie. A Need to see by anyone that has gone. Plus seeing that face on the big screen… Not too shabby
Haven’t seen it yet but I will this coming weekend. We have to keep the box office numbers up of course. Great write up.

Your blog is making me want to see this movie. Good Show
I’m also one of those people living under a rock who has yet to see ANY of the Bourne movies. Of course now your review has me wanting to see them all. Lazy Saturday, here I come!
Oh I’d hang out with you that day!
OMG I cannot wait to see this movie. I love Matt Damon but I like the way they did not replace him in the Bourne character but have a whole different character to take up the series.
Plus, I LOVE Jeremy Renner!
I haven’t wanted to see any of the Bourne movies but I really want to see THIS one. Maybe I’m just not a Matt Damon fan lol!
I’ve never seen a Bourne movie and now they’ve gone and changed characters on me. I’ve only seen Jeremy Renner in SWAT and I think he was a bad guy. Time to catch up. Great review. This sounds like a good one.
I haven’t seen the Bourne movies, but sounds like it might be a good one!
Oh I didn’t realize Rachel Weisz was his costar. i love her. This is definitely a movie I want to see. I’m glad that he is a new character and not just a replacement for Matt Damon. I was worried about that.
